As many of you many already know, Alice and her band the Formerlys (as in "formerly played in... and ... and with..., etc.) journeyed to Ardent Studios in Memphis, TN to work with producer Jim Gaines of the 2007 release. Since then, sons from Freedom have landed on terrestrial and satellite radio, including XM Satellite Radio's Bluesville. Alice plays her own unique blend of Country, Flok, and Blues all melded together. With her beautiful vocals and award winning guitar playing, she always keeps your attention. The cover art captures Alice's energy. Telecaster in hand, kicking up her turquoise hi-top "cons" over a Sun Records-style sun burst. Freedom covers a lot of musicial ground, from the reggae beat of "Basket Case", to the rocking sounds of "If you Want It To Last", and the Country strains of Johnny Cash's "Train of Love", to the jazzy instrumental "Sophia". Alice wrote or co-wrote nine of the 13 tracks, the liner notes contain all the lyrics and show why Alice is a frequent nominee and award winner for the best songwriter. Although there are no true blues songs in the Chicago of Delta styles, it is a really top-notch CD. The sounds is bright and crisp and not over processed. If you are already a fan of Alice's music, as I am, I recommend this CD. If you are unfamiliar with Alice Stuart, this CD deserves your attention and will make an excellent introduction. After only one listen, you too will be a fan eagerly awaiting her next local show.
